Date Nights! When Nathan and I were "dating" of course we went out on a LOT of dates! We did a lot of the dinner and a movie type things but one of my favorites was a random day when Nathan was still in college and he came up with the idea to go get lunch and come back to the campus lake and have a picnic, he had some old bread to feed the geese, and we went on a walk. We had such a nice afternoon together. And I remember laying on the grass outside our dorm at the end and rolling around in the grass while he was tickling me, him putting me on his shoulders, and lots of laughing. We pretended like we were all alone and didn't care what anybody thought because we were young and in love and just having fun! I'll always remember that day because it wasn't about some outlandish date planned, hardly any money was spent, and we didn't have to go very far. It was special because Nathan came up with this idea and it was probably his first idea like that since we were still a newer couple. I just remember feeling so care free and wrapped up in how much I loved him.
Unfortunately, days like that are few and far between. That comes with growing up and having a family and real responsibilities. We have a lot more to spend our money on too. So between finding actual time to get away and the money to spend on it, we don't get to do it nearly as often as we would like. So it's super special when we do! And I love that even after all this time, I still get so excited. I have butterflies while I'm getting ready and trying to look good for my man. There aren't several things to load into the car including Addison, so Nathan goes back to getting my car door, which I love! As much as we LOVE being parents, it's really nice to get away by ourselves sometimes. And important for a marriage. In January we said we wanted to go on a date once a month, but that hasn't happened so we are just thankful when we can.
Yesterday I won a free blooming onion from Outback and I have a gift card with $5 on it left over so tomorrow night Nathan and I are going on a date! My sister is going to babysit Addison for free so that helps keep it cheap! We are going to do some Christmas shopping because I haven't started yet and it's so nice to do it without entertaining a baby. I can't wait! I'm thankful for date night and Christmas shopping!
