Will this be the last can of formula I buy??

Addison is just over a year now. It took her a long time to drink water from a sippy cup. I was buying a new cup every time I went to the store trying to get ones she could figure out. Finally she got it. She loves water! Addison has never tasted anything other than milk and water and to be honest, I have no plans of giving her anything else for a while. I just see juice as unneeded sugar. If you saw how excited she got over me letting her drink some of my water at dinner or even ice water in a sippy cup, you would understand that I'm not depriving her! haha Anyways...

I can't get Addison to drink her milk in a cup. She will drink water all day long, but if I put milk in it she takes one sip and pushes it away. I don't really understand. I was planning on getting her to drink from the cup first, and then offer her real milk instead of formula and transition her that way. Well after trying that several times, I tried to let her taste real milk. I bought some Organic whole milk, pretty good if you ask me, and gave her about an ounce of it in a bottle. She threw/spit up three times within the next hour. So...I guess she isn't ready for real milk yet. I talked to her pediatrician about goats milk because someone suggested that to me. (Which I wasn't sure I wanted to buy anyways because I didn't want to test it on myself.) He said he didn't think there was enough research on it for infants. So whatever. But I'm not sure what to do about this. The other day I bought a can of formula and I was kind of sad about spending another $25 dollars when she should be old enough for milk and I asked Nathan if he thought that would be the last can. He laughed and said, "Haha. No probably not." Isn't he encouraging? :) Right now she gets two bottles, one first thing when she wakes up and the other after her bath before she goes to bed.

Any suggestions Moms?

  1. You know me--I didn't mess much with my kids. :) Both boys were done with bottle right about a year old b/c like you, I hated buying formula. I would first take away her bottle in the morning. Give her some milk with breakfast instead. I know a mom who warmed up regular milk--maybe that's what she needs. Who knows? I wouldn't put regular milk in the bottle--make her drink it in a sippy cup. After she gets the hang of that, I would take that last bottle away. Again, I'm pretty "mean" when it comes to stuff like that. I just take it away, but I understand that doesn't work for most people. :)

  3. Have you tried warming the milk? I have done it differently with each child, depending on their pickiness. First one I had no problem with anything...he was easy in every way. The only thing I did was gradually add whole milk to the formula until, rather quickly, he got used to the taste. The next one would drink whole milk from a straw, but only if it was warmed up some, I guess because he was so used to breastmilk being lukewarm. My baby now prefers it cold from and straw as well, but will also take a sippy cup of milk or water. That may not help you at all, but good luck, girl!
