Addison's Teddy Bear

Addison's cousin Kayla gave her a teddy bear for Christmas. When I opened it and handed it to her, she immediately snuggled it to her face. I thought, "Oh how cute." and went on to help her continue opening her gifts. After we got home it stayed in the box for at least a week because we brought home Titus that week and were busy with that. After getting settled we were putting everything away and I found the bear. I handed it to Addison and she hugged it tight. I really didn't think that much of it again other than thinking it was cute. Well a couple of weeks ago I was trying to help Addison sleep better and it was the middle of the night. She had already woken up several times. I went in and got her bear and handed it to her. She grabbed it, stuck her thumb in her mouth, and went to sleep without crying. "Thank you Jesus!!" And since that night she has slept with it every night. She still wakes up to eat at least once during the night because she isn't eating as much during the day. But it works out ok. I changed her, feed her, burp her, and lay her right back down. No crying. For nap time I just go in and lay her down with her bear and she hardly cries more than a minute and sometimes not at all. "Again, Thank you Jesus!" Everyday I dreaded nap times because she would cry and cry and I would have to go outside or in the other end of the house. There were many times that I cried myself. Some days I would rock her until she fell asleep, only for her to wake up crying as soon as I would lay her down. She still only sleeps for about 20-30 minutes twice a day...but at least I don't have to hear her cry.

This little bear has been amazing! She has gotten so attached to it. She smiles every time she sees it. She sleeps with it all night and if she wakes up any time other than feeding time, if that bear is not in her hand, she crawls to find it, pops that thumb in her mouth, and goes to sleep. I know that some people would not let their children have an attachment like this, but after almost 9 months of crying, it is a much welcomed break! And I know what you might be thinking..."What if she looses it or something happens to it?" We have got it covered! Nathan and I went to the store that it was bought at, BrookeStone, and they had them on clearance for $4.99!! So we bought two! (Just another example of how we are pre-planners! haha) So we have two bears waiting in her closet just in case. :)

  1. Girl, you are so smart. The whole time I was reading your post, I was thinking, "I so hope she has at least one more bear like that!" You and Nathan have got it covered because there will be a day when she leaves that bear somewhere and she is going to be upset. Then Mom will save the day by pulling out her favorite bear.
