Week One of the Standard Process Detox

Several weeks ago a friend shared with me that she was thinking about starting a detox program that her nutritionist recommended. It's a three week program with a strict menu, supplements, and shakes. I read over all the material and Nathan and I talked about it several times. I knew it wouldn't be fun but the more I read and thought about it, I figured it would be really good for me. Unlike some of the other detoxes I've read about, this one is a lot healthier...but it is also longer than the others. There are lots of benefits for a detox but the two main ones for me were ridding my body of toxins and digestion help. We've started eating a lot healthier so I thought that by ridding my body of the toxins that have been in my body for years would give me a fresh slate. (Plus who doesn't love lowering their risk of cancer!) And not to get too personal but lets just say...I don't have a problem going to the bathroom too often.

Week One - 2/3 diet is filled with vegetables from the approved list. Raw, Steamed, or Sauteed in grape seed oil or coconut oil. (olive oil is allowed but should be a last resort) & Fresh fruits from approved list. Only allowed to drink Spring Water (I gave up coffee completely...and after a week of falling in love with my new Keurig) Shake in the morning, Shake at night, two different supplements taken 3 times a day totally to 30 capsules a day. Walking a few times but nothing more strenuous.

First few days were rough!! I felt terrible! Headaches, body aches, dizzy, weak, sore, and nauseated. I told Nathan I didn't understand why getting rid of toxins made me feel so bad and he said something I hadn't thought of. "I don't think it's any different than a person going through withdrawals after hard drugs. Your body is addicted to the toxins even though they're bad for you so it's going through withdrawals." Made perfect sense to me, but not fun! After about the 3rd day I started to feel a lot better. Weak but all the other symptoms were gone.

Thankfully the hardest week is over! I lost 7.2 pounds! I was shocked. It puts me just a few pounds from exactly where I want to be so that's awesome. I have a lot more energy! I can tell that this detox is working.

I wont pretend it isn't hard to make my family dinners that I can't eat. I actually made then pancakes because I hadn't in a real long time and of course pizza Friday. *Sniff* Several times I would fix dinner and make everyone's plate and then take Titus for a walk so I didn't have to watch them eat. haha

Today starts week two. I get to add organic chicken, a couple types of fish, brown rice, and lentils to my diet. Still two shakes a day and my supplement regimen changes a bit with different supplements. I felt like I was cheating when I made my spinach salad and added some sauteed chicken but it tastes so good!

So here is to week two and three going by quickly! (And don't worry...I wont be loosing 7 pounds every week!)
