Look Closely...

Notice Anything Different??

SHE HAS PIERCED EARS!! :)

When she was a baby I wanted to pierce her ears. I think little babies with pierced ears are so cute!! Nathan wanted to wait. He said he didn't care how old she was but he wanted her to ask for them. In all honesty, he doesn't state many opinions about the children so when he does, I listen. (Might not believe it but he was the one who originally said no juice or soda until they were older...I'm just the one that made it a very strict rule.) Anyways... so we waited. After she was three she said she wanted earrings but when she asked if they hurt I told the truth. I don't believe in lying to your kids about things like that. Not saying scare them to death, but at least be honest. I told her it would feel like a pinch in each ear and then it would be over. She wanted no part of it. Occasionally she would see little girls with earrings and we would talk about it but each time she wasn't ready. We didn't push the issue.

Last week at the beach I was in Target. I picked up these little fake diamonds that I wanted for myself. She loved them and asked if they could be her's and I told her no because she didn't have her ears pierced. Well that's all it took. She decided right then that she had seen a pair cute enough to want them done I guess. She talked about it and that next morning woke up saying she wanted to have them done. Called Nathan and he was all for it. I called a local place and asked when two ladies would be there so they could each do an ear at the same time.

She was so excited! Naturally picked out the some of the most expensive ones without understanding money. Sat in the chair and was so brave! Didn't cry. Not even a little. She flinched and looked a little scared like she thought there was more to come and then they showed her a mirror and she loved them! She declared them "Fashion Beautiful!!" She couldn't wait to show her favorite guy and has been excited to show the people she knows when she sees them.

Looking back, I'm glad we waited. If she had always had them, she wouldn't have had to be brave and face a fear and more importantly she wouldn't appreciate them like she does. Nathan's mother had a new pair of earrings waiting on her when we arrived at their house and they are still in the box because she can't take her's out for 6 weeks. She has shown several people her earrings from Dharma and each day goes and looks at them and makes sure I still think they are pretty.

Love my girly girl!

  1. I remember the day both of my girls got theirs done. We told them they could have it done when they were 5 for their birthday. Erin cried for a split second until they handed her the mirror. It was all good from that moment on..... :)
