You might have guessed by the title! Addison used the potty today!!
Every once and a while I will stick Addison on the potty. I really would rather her learn to use the regular one because it makes the transition easier and to be honest, I don't want to clean the little potty. (yuck!) In the past, Addison seemed scared but I've been talking about the potty and announcing that mommy is going to pee-pee in the potty and stuff like that. This morning it had been a couple of weeks since I've put her on the potty so I thought I would try it out this morning.
I stuck her on the potty this morning and this time used one of those things that sits on the top of the regular one so they can't fall in but it doesn't catch anything so there isn't any messy cleanup. We sang a few songs, brushed her teeth, and talked about going potty. After a while I kinda got tired of it so I asked her if she wanted to get down and Addison said, "No Mommy, I pee pee potty." ... "oook", so we hung out some more, and I would ask her again to get down, again the same answer. Well eventually she decided to get down and never went. I was fine with that because it was the first time she wasn't scared. Progress.
When she woke up from her nap she had a dry diaper and since that is a sign to look for I thought I would give it a shot. We sat on the potty. She was brushing her teeth again...she loves to do this even with just water. And I thought, I will just grab a book and that will pass the time. (As I mentioned, she can't fall in.) As soon as I started to get the book, I heard her tinkling! I ran in and was so excited for her and started praising her. She held out her tooth brush and said, "more wawger please". So apparently she didn't really care and just wanted more water but I was one happy mom!!
This doesn't mean that we are "potty training". I'm taking this slow. But I might start trying to do this after nap time. I have seen too many parents push their kids into potty training and it backfired so we are going to take it sslloooww. I want to keep it fun and encouraging until she really learns it. But I'm really excited about her using the potty today. 22 months, not bad for a first time! :)
