My little School Girl

Today I enrolled Addison Grace into school! She wont actually be going until August. She will be going to the two year old class Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30-11:30. She will attend St. Thomas Day School which I actually went to when I was 4 and 5. They lady who signed her up, remembered me! I had to go ahead and enroll her because they only allow 10-12 kids in her class and it was almost filled.

School for such a young age seems to be a controversial issue among many moms but this is something I truly believe it. It's just a few days a week for 3 hours. Addison will be learning a new letter every week, shapes, colors, days and months, and doing all kinds of super cool stuff! (Example for the letter "F" they get eat french fries, color frogs, make funny faces, and a real fire-fighter brings a fire truck to the school to show them) Plus, this is a Christian school so she will be learning some Bible stories and things like that. Personally, I think that sending your child to school while they are young is important. They acquire so much socially, learn to share, have more structure, and it prepares them for the future. I don't want to send her off to kindergarten where it's all day and have it be a complete shock! I really felt at peace talking to the teachers today and Addison already LOVES the playground they let her play on while we were there. The lady in charge of the school, Super Attendant, assured me that while it is a learning school they do try and make everything fun and there is lots of playing involved.

I think this is going to be wonderful for Addison. And good for me. Not too much longer after she starts school we might have another baby so this will give the new baby and I some special time. Plus, I have no idea how to run errands with two children so I could do that some days. haha I'm excited for her and I think she will love it. One her first day of school Nathan and I are both planning to drop her off. I already told him that I will probably tear up watching my baby wave good-bye the first time, but over-all I'm excited!

  2. She'll love it. They don't learn tons at that age, but the exposure is great. In my experience, they do a lot of playing and learn through that playing. The teachers' goals are to teach them to get along with others, manners, sharing, etc.--not just what the numbers and letters are (which at that age, they won't completely get). The boys both started when they had just turned two, and I've never regreted that decision. You will cry (good chance Addison will, too), but I think you'll be happy with your decision. :)
