Are we really making things better?

The other day I was at a stop light and looked over into the car next to me. I saw this woman talking and using hand gestures. She was the only one in the car. I thought, this woman is nuts. And then thought, she must have one of those cell phone head sets. Light turned green and we were off. And I starting thinking...are we really making things easier with all of this? We are constantly creating something that is supposed to make our lives easier. More productive. The next one is always faster. But all I've noticed, is that we are cramming more things in and never getting ahead. At first it was emails instead of hand-written letters and now it's texting instead of calling. Is there going to come a day that we don't talk at all? Why are we constantly trying to invent something to be easier and faster if we are still constantly rushing around?

Don't get me wrong, I'm so thankful that I have the luxuries of cars, washing machines, Internet, stoves, coffee maker, etc. I'm glad that we don't have to do EVERYTHING by hand!! I'm not the type that likes to get down and dirty and pull weight around. But I just feel like we don't take enough time to relax. We don't enjoy the simple things like smelling flowers, sitting on the porch and breathing fresh air, and stuff like that. But who knows...maybe I just watch too many Andy Griffith re-runs! :)

  1. I sure wish we lived in Mayberry! Of course, I'd be out of a job :)

I was having these same thoughts the other day. Why is it that for as much stuff as we invent to do our work for us, we never have enough time in the day? I can't imagine getting things done if I had to wash clothes by hand, churn butter, and hand write dictations! LOL
