Two Children that Gag :(

Addison has had some eating challenges ever since she was a baby. As she moved onto solid foods, we realized she was very sensitive to smells and textures. She gagged very easily and any time a certain texture was given to her she would get sick. If made to eat something she knew she didn't want, she would get sick. Even now, she can even be eating something that she is enjoying but reaches a "limit". Nathan and I can tell it on her face that we have about one or two more bites to offer her and then we will not make her eat any more. I truly do not believe it is a defiant thing because she has been doing this with food since I tried baby food and she would get sick and it isn't only healthy things. She wont even try a lot of junk or sweets half the time. (unless it's chocolate...she will try anything with chocolate!) We used to have cinamon rolls on Sundays for a couple of years she was 3 before she would even try it and not long after that we cut that tradition out. Lately she has been getting better. She still has her moments but I think we've all learned her limitations and she has been willing to give things a chance. If she puts it in her mouth and knows she can't handle it, we wont make her eat it.

After all that we went through with Peanut, I was so thankful when Weston came along and was all about food! From nursing every one and half hours for the first 9 months, to eating ANY baby food that I gave him, and now still eats pretty great. Vegetables aren't always his favorite but overall he's a great eater. However, lately he is gagging. Although this gagging can completely be helped. It isn't because he is sensitive. It's because the boy sticks so much food in his mouth that he can't chew and ends up getting sick. He's done it a few times. I promise that there have been many times that I have had to stick my hand in his mouth to pull out food but every once and a while I turn for a second or just can't get to him in time and it happens. He did it at Addison's party and thank goodness we were outside because we just hosed him off. Last night at dinner both Nathan and I were sitting right next to him. I had just retrieved some food out of his mouth and then it happened. This time I was able to catch it all so it didn't get all over him...(Too much information? Well consider yourself blessed for not being the one to catch it. haha) I would think that after a couple time he would learn but I guess not. *wink*

  1. Kylie does the exact same thing!!! She shovels as much food into her mouth as possible, like she has to store up for the winter or somehting. Drives me crazy!
