Four years ago, this precious little girl entered our lives! Her daddy nicknamed her Peanut because of how small she was on our chest. This 6 pound 14 ounce baby girl has grown up so fast and yet it's hard to remember when she wasn't apart of our lives.
Here is Addison a couple days before her birthday...
Here she is on her birthday...
Addison Grace is our little Princess. She is so full of life and personality. She has blossomed so much this year. Still cautious and shy at times, but really coming out of her shell. I think some of it is age, some from school, and some of it because of living with her very active brother! Addison loves anything girly. Pink is still her favorite color, she loves princess things, bows, accessories, new shoes, wearing lip gloss, etc.
Her independence has really started to show in the last 6 months! She wants to do everything herself. Sometimes it can be hard letting go and it isn't because we're having a hard time accepting it, it just takes her reminding us that she is growing up and to let her try things on her own because we're so used to just doing them without thinking. Addison has her own sense of style these days which is cute, but also hard to deal with sometimes. She has a handful of favorite outfits and if it were up to her she would only wear these few things every day. There are things she doesn't like and often times the sensitive and dramatic sides of her show when it's time to get dressed. She could probably win the game "Let's make a deal". I started offering her choices and deals a while back and they work great with her. She often times will tell me when she feels backed into a corner, "Mommy, mommy...just listen to me. I'm going to make up a deal." :)
We are so proud and thankful of our smart girl! She continues to be at the top of her class. She loves to learn! In the car our conversations are usually about learning. She likes to ask me to name words that start with certain letters and she is very interested in naming rhyming words. Addison learned to write her name a few months back. At school they have a computer lab that they go to occasionally and play educational games. She has brought home several certificates from the lab describing her achievements. I chuckled at the last one because in the description for achievements this time it said, "To many to list!" Her teacher told me that I will be blown away at her school work when I receive her special notebook at the end of the year. I can't wait to see it on Friday!
Addison got a new big girl bike for her birthday and she loves to ride. She also ran in her first race with me in April. That girl is fast!! At less than 4, she ran the mile in 11:38! She wants to be in more races but the summer time is slower so we will call it our training time and pick it back up in the fall. She quit dance this year and kind of broke my heart. I really didn't want her to do it more than a year but I never got to see her do her recital. She actually asked to go back a few weeks ago but I told her it was too late. Maybe she'll do it again next year but we are also looking into trying new things. She loves to paint so I am going to look into some painting classes and she has mentioned wanting to try soccer. Both Nathan and I are very open to the kids trying new things and being involved in extra curricular activities but want them to choose things they are interested in. (Can you blame me for wanting to see my only little girl in a tutu on stage just once?? haha But I was a good mommy and didn't push her.)
You may notice in the pictures that she has a sassy and silly side. I love it! It isn't always a side others get to see outside our house but she keeps us laughing. She loves to dance and sing. She also enjoys playing quietly in her room talking to her babies or playing with Weston's dinosaurs. She is my big helper with Weston. She is a rule follower like her mommy and quick to remind us if we break a rule we've told her. She keeps her brother in line. haha For the time being I haven't had the whole talk about "tattling" because she is usually saving him from...standing on the dinning room table, opening things he shouldn't, making a mess, about to hurt himself, etc.
At Addison's 4 year check up she was 43.5 inches tall! She, like her brother, was off the charts for height. (We just grow some tall babies!) Addison weighed 40.2 pounds placing her in the 70% percentile. I was a little surprised just because she is so skinny but I guess it's just because she is so tall. Doctor said she was perfectly healthy, happy, and smart!.
I adore this little girl. Watching her lift her hands in church and to try and copy mommy is precious. I love that she is learning to pray. The deep love she has for her brother warms my heart! I love when she talks about her "Adopted Brother" and keeps asking when we are going on the airplane to get him. She is a sensitive girl, very sensitive, but I understand her completely. It can be hard for some or seen as annoying but there is a pureness to it that will continue to develop as she matures. She has the kind of heart that loves deeper and stronger. She hurts when others are sad and is so compassionate. When I'm tucking her into bed after a long, hard day and she brushes my cheek and says, "You're my favorite girl in the whole world and you're my gift from God.", it's all I can do to hold back the tears. I tell her often that she is my precious gift from God and that I'm so thankful he gave her to me. That shows me that my words are sinking into her heart. Last night when I asked her to sit in my lap to take this picture I hugged her and asked, "Do you know how mommy knows God loves her?" she asked how and I told her, "Because he gave me you!" Her little eyes sparkled like diamonds and she showed me her smile that can light up a room. I am so thankful that the Lord has loaned this girl to me and given me the chance to raise her. She truly is my precious gift from God!
