He knows what he is saying

Weston's vocabulary has been growing and growing the last few weeks. I'm hesitent to say that he can SAY all the words he's saying because unless you know him well, you might not understand. But I've been so impressed with him lately! It's kind of like we had a baby genius all along and he's finally able to show us how smart he is. (Maybe genius is a stretch but all mom's are entitled to think their kid is smart right?)I'm amazed by the things he remembers. A lot of time we'll be doing something and he tells me what happens next. Or we can go somewhere and come back a few weeks letter and he'll say a word that lets me know he remembers exactly what that place is. It's happened several times!

Not sure if Weston has learned any new body parts in the past month or two but he can correctly identify... head, hair, eyes, nose, mouth, tongue, teeth, ears, cheeks, neck, arms, hands, fingers, leg, knees, feet, toes, belly, and belly button. When I first started pointing out things around one he would just laugh and laugh as if I told the funniest joke. He really had no interest in it so we put if off. Then he picked it up quickly a couple months later.

He will do anything for a laugh! If he does something and someone thinks it's funny, he will keep doing it. His laugh is contagious...oh the silly things Nathan and I do just to hear that precious laugh over and over.

By now I believe children "should" be putting two words together. He doesn't. I think he could if he didn't insist on people showing him they understand him. He will say a word over, over, and over again until you make it clear you understand. Most of the time in order to do this you have to say the word he is trying to say and then he will stop. This also goes for strangers. When they come up to him and start talking he likes to point out his dad, mama, and sister. He tries to say Addison but it sounds like "Shawn" because he is only trying to say the ending. One day when I was in a check out line at the drug store he was trying to tell the gentleman behind us, "Shawn Shawn Shawn" and he couldn't understand of course and I said "Yes that is your sister Addison." He just kept saying it. The man was laughing and would say yes I see your sister, but Weston just kept on. I kept saying, "Yes that's Addison" hoping that the gentleman would say that to Weston so he would stop. Finally I told the man, "If you want him to stop you're going to have to say Addison." He laughed and said it and then Weston clapped his hands and finally stopped. Thankfully the gentleman was a good sport! haha So once I acknowledge that I understand the first word, he will move onto the second, and then third.

I love that he is really trying very hard. I think it's cute that he's finally able to really start communicating what's been in his head all along.

  1. It's so much fun when they start talking more, isn't it?! Kylie wasn't putting two words together for a while after she was supposed to, either. Now she is saying several words together, and she won't stop talking! Some days I already wish for the days when she could only say one word so just enjoy it, haha.
