What is Weston like at 16 1/2 months? Very much the same as any other time!
*Still takes two naps most days
*Nursing close to as much as before
*not sleeping all night...yes you read that correctly. :)
*Happy all the time
*He has shown us that he can get very upset. It doesn't usually last long, but lately when things don't go his way or he can't have something he will slap himself on the leg, the floor, or even us and say "Bad!" Poor little guy does this and turns real red, cries, etc. Nathan has been trying to teach him to maybe clap his hands together instead of hitting himself or anything else. He does get popped now for hitting us. We are also trying to teach him not to say bad like that. It took me a while to figure out how he picked that up because I don't say it to my kids and then one day I popped Titus and said "Bad Dog" and Weston laughed and popped himself on the leg and said bad. Might sound silly to try and teach him to still do something but even though it doesn't last long you can tell he NEEDS to get his aggression out. (Lord help us as he grows! haha)
*He's a climber. Adventurous and daring most of the time. Have to watch this one closely! Loves stairs but he is terrible at walking down them. (We don't have them in our house so he isn't around them much)
*Loves to slide! He is not scared of big slides at all! He will even go down the ones that look like tunnels.
Has an eye for the ladies. Mostly girls that older than him and woman but he often times trying to get their attention.
*Still sleeps with Snuggle Bear as he calls him "Ba" and takes a pacifier which sounds something like, "dat" or "da"
*He can tell you the animal sounds for cat, dog, monkey, elephant, alligator (chomping teeth), dinosaur, and pig.
*Points to body parts...feet, hands, hair, eyes, nose, mouth, tongue, teeth, ears, and belly button
*LOVES anything with a motor and isn't sure why mommy wont let him hitch a ride on the motorized carts at the grocery store. (Strangers can't be that bad if they have wheels, right?)
*His favorite shows to watch seem to be Diego and Bubble Guppies
*His laugh is contagious and one of my favorite sounds
*He likes taking a bath
*Playing outside is one of his favorite places to be.
*Doesn't like to sit still very long.
*Has developed a love for reading but only if you read quickly and point out things. No time for long paragraphs.
*Loves new shoes (this one surprised us!)
*Eats really well with a fork. I rarely try the spoon.
*Loves fruit and meat, eats lots of yogurt but doesn't care for any other dairy, vegetables he still only cares for in a puree form.
*Sitting in the front seat of a car and pretending to drive can keep him entertained for at least 30 minutes!
*Working on being gentle with the animals and others
*As rough and tough as he can be...Weston is the sweetest little guy. Initiating lots of kisses and hugs, loves to cuddle, and I call him "My Sugar Boy"
*Likes to dance and apparently has inherited his daddy's moves. *wink*
Vocabulary is really the only thing he would be "behind" in. I put the quotes because every child is different. We can tell he is super smart. He understands a lot and communicates well in spite of his lack of words. If he wants something he gets it himself, or he will get our attention and we will play the point and guess game. When we get it right he nods yes with the biggest smile and claps for us if he is really excited. We can give him commands like "Go put this in the trash", "If you want to eat you have to get in your highchair", "Bring me your shoes and we'll go outside" etc. He has a great memory! Just last week we dropped of Nathan at the auction early the first day and that night around 6 we went to pick him up and as soon as I got close he kept saying "Dad!" and clapping his hands. He tries to say so much...dad, mom, dog, Addison, cup, outside, play, slide, thank you, fish, snack, duck, "I don't know"... I guess the list could go on and on. I say try because honestly the only words that I would say a stranger could tell what he was saying if he wasn't pointing would probably be Dad, Mom, Bye-bye, No, Hi, and Bad. A lot of his words are "Da and Ba" or a very small variation. Like Thank you is "Dat, Dat". I can tell a lot of what he is trying to say and communicate and usually have to tell Nathan. This is just because I'm with him all day, every day. I'm not worried about his speech. The fact that he has been trying to say so many words in the last few weeks is an encouragement and his doctor said that it was ok because he was a boy and a second child and he could tell he was very alert and very smart. - And let's face it people...his daddy is a man of few words. :)
It's hard to sum up what your child can do or all that you'll want to remember in one blog, but that's all I have time for today! Here is a picture I took last week. Look at those eyes and those kissable lips! This mama is going to have to fight the ladies off!! I used a color filter on this picture to enhance the natural colors. I pray his eyes are always this blue.
My William...the son I prayed for...
