Christmas Ideas for our Family

This year we are cutting back on our Christmas gifts to others. Hoping everyone understands because we are trying to save for our adoption. :) I saw a picture recently that was two pictures in one. On one side there was a little boy from Africa who was naked, starving, and laying on the dirt. On the other side was a beautiful Christmas tree in a living room that was surrounded by gifts. The picture asked you to check your priorities. I felt like it came at a timely manner because I was already thinking about how we will have to scale back this year and worried how people would feel. I don't want my kids to expect so much for Christmas. I see parents spending so MUCH money on their kids and the kids don't even seem excited because they think they're owed it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE giving gifts to my kids and seeing their faces light up. I just want to make sure we focus more on the REAL meaning of Christmas...

That being said, I wanted to give gift ideas for family...

Nathan & I: We ask that instead of buying us presents, you save the money you would have spent and give it to us for our adoption. That really is our only desire right now; to bring our son home.

Addison: Clothes size 4 or 4T. She could use some sweaters. Gift cards are great also so we can try stuff on at Old Navy, Gymboree, Target, Kohls. She loves crafty things and painting, she loves pretend or real jewelry. Puzzles and games. Littlest Pet Shop stuff...really anything she will be happy with!

Weston: Size 18months for tops and 12 months for bottoms. Gift cards to same stores as above work too. He loves anything with wheels and a motor, loves dinosaurs, likes reading boy books. He isn't picky because he plays with lots of girly things too, but he welcomes new boy toys to the house. :)

  1. That's so funny that he and Kylie both wear 18 months tops and 12 months bottoms!

I agree that some parents make Christmas entirely too much about gifts. It is so fun giving presents (especially to our kids) but it's most important for them to learn that Christmas is NOT about getting presents and instead of getting excited about Christmas just for the presents, we've got to teach them to be excited for Christmas because it's Jesus' birthday, and look at what He has done for us!
