Going in a new direction

As I've shared a few times, we plan to adopt. The sad part is we felt like it was getting pushed back farther because of money. Realistically we can't have another child in this house. I know that people CAN, but WE can't. With Titus being 170 pounds it is like having 3 adults, two kids, and two cats living in this little house. The kids bedrooms are not very big and their toys end up in every room of the house. So our plan was to save up money to buy a much bigger house and then save to adopt. You can see where this might take a while...

About a week and a half ago Nathan and I were talking and I told him that lately something has really been heavy on my heart with the adoption process. I told him that obviously even if we brought a child home to this house it would be a FAR better life than the orphanage or group home he is in now. What good does a big house do if it feels empty? I told him that I think we needed to give up some of our house dreams of the expensive home and focus on what can we do to make a way to bring our child home faster. (Call me crazy but I already believe he is born and I cry each time I think about it praying he is being loved and fed. But those are tears for another blog...) Anyways, Nathan completely agreed with me. The more we talked, we kind of knew what we had to do. Maybe we knew all along but were hoping it wasn't it. We are going to build out on our land. We were blessed by getting back a lot more than we thought in taxes this year (hooray for having a baby!) and are putting most all of it on the land. Nathan is having a decent year at work and is working as hard as he can to get a big bonus at the end of the year. If that happens we will pay it off!! When that happens we will put our house up for sale. Once it sells, our plan is to build a house that will give as little more room and have a play room for the kids. It will be our next stepping stone. The goal is to even use cheaper materials if needed so that we keep our house payment the same or less. We are going to try some fund raisers and save what we can for the adoption, but at this point we are open to financing if that is what it takes to bring our boy home faster! We know that God has called us to this and he will provide.

These are plans. Plans change some times. They have many times before. But right now this is the new direction we feel we are supposed to take. We cannot move further until we pay off the land so we are praying that God continues to provide that money! Please be praying for us regarding adoption. We plan to meet with the first agency we're interested in within the next few months. I'm so excited and nervous all at the same time. I can't wait to bring our child home!! We are praying that the Holy Spirit will direct each step.

**Once we actually start the process I plan to start an adoption blog to keep everyone up to date.

  1. You do know that Stephen Curtis Chapman has an organization that assists in the finances for couples trying to adopt overseas, right?
